Madina Darga near Kalinga Patnam
Kalingapatnam is the ancient port town in Srikakulam district. It is at a distance of 25 km to District head quarters. For so many years historians viewed Kalingapatnam as one of the capital towns of Kalinga Desa. Remains of “Kota Dibba” (Fort heap) on the outskirts of the town and presence of a
Buddhist stupa near Nagaralapeta, which is more than 2000 years age, decide the anitiquity of the village to Before Christ. Another evidence is that there is an ancient Dargah where one inscription revealed that it belongs to 16th Centuary. Buddhist Stupa at Nagaralapeta had 2000 years ancient history. This town became very prominent from 17th Centuary A.D. as an important port city for exports and imports on the East India coast. Satavahanas conquered this port Before Christ and Gouthamiputra Satakarni (152 B.C - 96 B.C.) developed Buddhism and also marine trade from Kalingapatnam. During Muslim rule Arab Dhows had regular trading with Persia and Mesapatomia (Iraq). Early Europeans mainly Dutch occupied the port in 17th Centuary. Syed Kalinga Madina Oulia Baba Durgah which belongs to 16th Centuary stands as a testimony of Hindu Muslim Unity.
