TELINEELAPURAM BIRDS NESTING AREA
01. a) Geographical location ;
Situated in india in the state of Andhra pradesh in Srikakulam Dist between Northern Latitude 18.57221 to 18.57325, Eastern Longitude 84.26716 to 84.26730 beside the Bay of Bengal.
b)Location;
Telineelapuram Village is situated 5 kms from Tekkali and 5 kms away from Nowpada Railway Station and connected by with black road.
02.How to reach;
By road from Tekkali which is on NH5 (or) by train up to Railway Station, and then by road.
03.Brief Description of the Area;
The Telinelapuram village is situated towards the east of Srikakulam District. The nearest big town is Tekkali which is main road head to reach this village.Nowpada Railway Station is on the Visakhapatanam Howrah main line and is about 5 kms.from Telineelapuram about 400 people live in about 70 huts and semi permanent houses. In this village there are Tamarind trees and prosopis juliflora trees on which mainly these Migratory Birds namely Spotted Birds Pelicans and Painted Storks migrate, nest and breed.
04. Migratory Pattem
The intra-continental migration is an annual feature. The Birds exhibit a migratory flying order where they take a shape of an “Arrow Head”. The lading point, sides and rear are guarded by the old Birds. The center is filled by the young adults and rarely few sub –adults. These birds exhibits a Homing instinct where they are particularly in returning to the same place, same tree, same branch and same nest which is a wonder of the nature. He cause for such phenomenon is yet to be studied. Year after year these birds breed and after the young chicks grow to sub-adults, and when those are fit to fly, they fly back thousands of Kilometers and reach their original homes , the main feeding grounds. There the sub-adults feed and frown as adults and return to the breeding grounds in india etc.., where they have a sub –feeding ground near the vicinity of the Breeding grounds on which these birds thrive. The birds after flying over stretched long distance, to these breeding grounds, without halt or with few feeding stops become very weak and spend away all reserved fats, and proteins, in their bodies. in these sub-feeding grounds they feed sumptuously and put on fat and protein and start laying eggs in a very short span. Incidentally they collect
Suitable nesting material and build suitable nests for the coming young chicks. These birds exhibit a great lat of parental care towards their young chicks. We have in this District such wonderful sub-feeding grounds the Great Tekkali creek extending between Bhavanapadu and Meghavaram. The roosting and nesting place in Telineelapuram village.
05. WONDERFUL ASSOCIATION:
It is Wonderful that the villagers of Telineelapuram have great love and affection towards these birds get the fullest protection from these villages in protecting their nests and young chick. It recalls the protection of Black Bucks by the Bhisnavol community in Haryana. These villagers take lot of Interest and care to protect these birds and not to cause any damage or disturbance to them. This is the main reason for the survival of these birds in this locality. There are one or two small places in Kasibugga area where the Pelicans and Painted stroks visit in very few numbers. In this village Telineelapuram the Pelicans nest on Tamarind and Prosopis Trees. At about 700 Nos of Pelicans and 1200 Nos of Painted storks will be migrated to this area every year.
06. NESTING PATTERN:
Pelicans from joint or communal nesting or nesting per one pair also where as Painted storks keep single nest per pair. Communal nesting and ‘AUNTYCARE’ are common in Pelicans.

2. Painted Storks [Mycteria Leucocephala]
3. Adjutant Storks [Leptopilos Dubius].
